Sip on Some Cardamom Spiced Oat Milk: A Soothing Autumn Drink
Oat milk, like many other plant based milks seem to be "all the rage" these days. As my son Bo often reminds me....I should have thought about getting my non-dairy recipes on the market 30 years ago, when I wrote my first cookbook "Not Milk...NUT Milks!" Oat milk, like nut milk, has a nice, creamy texture and is a bit denser then some of the more watery rice milks on the market. This makes it a great choice for a warm nourishing drink. I love adding cardamom spice to oat milk, ---it adds a delightfully sweet, warm flavor. Cardamom, you may or may not know, originated in India, and its seeds, oils and extracts have some-pretty amazing medicinal properties. it's known to freshen breath, discourage cavities (kills bacteria), calm inflammation, lower blood sugar, prevent liver enlargement, reduce anxiety, and even help to prevent cancer. How's that for a nightcap!
Ingredients.
3 cups oat milk
3/4 tsp. cardamom powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon powder
2 tsp. vanilla or cocoa flavored protein powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
honey or maple syrup to sweeten lightly
DIRECTIONS
In a small saucepan, add milk, cardamom, cinnamon, protein powder, and vanilla over low heat, whisk vigorously. Heat until the milk is warmed through. Add honey or maple syrup and mix well.
